The Chandratal Baralacha Trek is has everything which would cherish. Amazing sunset on the turquoise waters of Chandratal, photography landscape, mountain passes, several small streams, lush green meadows, wild and colourful orchards and wildlife all together make the journey worth reliving every moment.
Chandratal lake is situated at the altitude of 4300 meter. The lake is the source of Chandra River, which is a major tributary of Chenab River. The Chandratal Baralacha Trek is one of the popular treks in Himachal Pradesh.
Baralacha La, is situated at the elevation of 4,890 meters and lying on the Leh-Manali Highway, is one of the high altitude motorable mountain passes that connects the Spiti, Ladakh, Zanskar and Lahaul regions.
Batal is the starting point of Chandratal Lake Trek, which is very near to Keylong. Trail moves from Batal leads to Chandratal, which is about 6 - 7 hours of trail, covering approx. 18 kilometers. Throughout the journey one can enjoy the panoramic view of the Lahaul range.
From Chandratal the trail further leads to Tokpo Gongma at 4,420 meters and thereafter winds to Tokpo Yongma at 4,650 meters.
Day 01: Arrival at Manali
Arrive at Manali and indulge in the local discovery and gems around the city
Day 02: Manali to Chandrataal
Day 02, Head over to Chandrataal lake in Spiti Valley via Chattru. It takes 6 hours to reach Chandrataal from Manali. Chandrataal is a high Altitude Alpine Lake and aAccording to Hindu mythology, Chandratal is the place where Indra, the King of Gods, came down on his chariot to transport Yudhishthira, eldest of the five Pandavas, in his mortal form to Swarga (heaven).
Locals believe that fairies visit the lake at night.Chandra Bhaga mountain range (CB Group) forms the perfect backdrop for the lake.
Day 03: Chandratal (4300m) - Tokpo Gongma (4320m) (6 hours)
The Days Trek is very easy but a long walk accompanied by massive Chandra-Bhaga (C.B.) range on the Western side. The camps will be set up nearby the river or just after crossing the river. It is required that the trekkers either wear slippers or extra shoe while crossing the river.
Day 04: Tokpo Gongma (4380m) - Tokpo Yongma (4640m) (Trek/5 hours)
Day 04 requires that you commence early. The Perpetual heat on the mountain tops and over the glaciers rises during the day time and it becomes difficult to cross rivers due to the rising water force.The route is a breathtaking and one with sight of frosty peaks of Chandrabhaga Range. The Tokpo Yongma crossing is more east as compared to the Tokpo Gongma.
Day 05: Tokpo Yongma (4640m) - Baralacha La Pass(4900m)
The day will be tough. You will need to climb some steep slopes of Chandra Valley to enjoy stunning sights of snowy Himalayan ranges past the Baralacha Pass. Ascend to the Baralacha La South peak and then descend to cross over a river.After this patch, make way through a lovely and lengthy meadow stretch to arrive at Baralacha La North summit. Head Over to Bharatpur and Rest for the day
Day 06: Baralacha drive to Manali over Rohtang la (3980 m)
Head over back to Manali and this ends your trek in Himachal Pradesh.
Day 07: Back to Delhi from Manali
Relax in the morning at Manali and take overnight bus to Delhi.
