Every year, around the end of winter the magnificent breed of Olive Ridley turtles visit and hatch eggs in the serene beaches of the small village called Velas in the Konkan region. Come join us and experience this extraordinary sight.
The village celebrates Velas Turtle festival every year which is organized by Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra (SNM) and the Kasav Mitra Mandal (KMM) from February to March. Velas is also the birthplace of Nana Phadnis, one of the prominent personalities in Maratha history.
1) Harihareshwar temple:-
Built in the 16th century, it is surrounded by four holy hills Harihar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri. Harihareshwar is a region in Konkan which is amazingly beautiful with hills playing the perfect foil for long stretch of pristine beach. It has deities of Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva.
2) Bankot Fort
Bankot is a square shaped fort. On the sides of Bankot fort, there is a dry moat (Revni) dug out in the Jambhya stone. Jambhya stone is peculiar type of stone adorning a purple shade and incapable of storing water as the water invariable percolates through it.

Day 1: Saturday
Reach Velas by 5am. After getting fresh, head to the Velas beach to witness the baby turtles take their first step towards life. Later move towards the homely breakfast at Velas village. Freshen up time will be allotted to everyone after which we will be visiting Bankot fort for a lovely view of Velas beach and Harihareshwar temple. Return back for typical Konkani lunch at Velas. Evening will be spent at the beautiful beach of Velas, looking for more sightings of hatchlings.
Day 2: Sunday
Wake up early in the morning and visit the beach as morning is believed to be best time to see the turtles. Later head towards the Harihareshwar temple. An incredible sight - our bus along with us being transferred to an island inside the ferry. A small parikrama of the mountain gives you beautiful view of ocean. Later we will have lunch in a nearby hotel and leave for Mumbai.
